call for
submissions
New Gho is Accepting *all styles* of artists books for a new public library collection housed in the pacific northwest, set to open in the next 1-3 years.
Your work will be part of a planned permanent collection, and available for browsing by the public, including a mention of your website and/or any social media or projects in our larger online, in-person and also our social media database.
No artist to0 young or old, too near or too far, too weird, too dull will be denied.....However...however....-->
However.....!!!! we ask that:
*All Books submitted please fit under 1 cubic feet dimensionally.
*Multiple Copies of the same book are not accepted, however multiple *different books* by the same artist are accepted. The fee applies to each individual book submitted.
*Any materials such as toxic materials like lead, metals or body/animal parts will NOT be considered (and will most likely be rejected at the post office and you will receive a penalty fine by them (also most likely).
We reserve the right to forefit your submission fee and your work (without returning it or with your paid return shipping if the materials used in your book pose a threat to the public) if you have questions about this continue reading below and send us a message if you are unsure about your materials.
*Please no glass, formaldehyde, explosives, magnets, sprays, combustibles, weed strains, or natural chemical compounds, drugs, household chemicals, perishables (including foods, certain chemicals), polyurethane, *sharp objects*, mercury, bleach, any and all household toxins, mold, or things that could possibly mold, or bodily fluids, hair, intentional human nails or DNA, used in the creation of your books.. they will NOT be accepted (also see above for similar reasons). Anything the book team deems unhygenic basically is a No-go.
* We may or may not accept digital works including harddrives, USB dongles, CDs etc ( Please Email us with further questions if this is your intended book)
*Please use (as much as you can) non toxic paints, sprays, inks and glues in your materials as much as you are able to given within commercial reason (though when dried they may be fine) We trust you on this one. :)
Books can be explorations on any topic or (accepted) medium given content is not completely traumatizing nor a public health threat essentially. This is up to your discretion, however here are some good guidelines:
*Please Avoid Extremely violent pornographic (or violent images in general), or any related or like images if possible....
however basic, uncompromising nudes are fine and A-OK. If you are uncertain if your work is uncompromising beyond a certain limit, let us know. Sensual, sexual, politically-charged artworks are fine and dandy, but read below for more info as we have further reasons why we will not accept all works in this subject matter.
While Freedom of speech is lovely, If we find that your books are based in Hate Speech, more particularly including racial, or gender- based hate speech, we reserve the right to Deny your book and forefit the application fee.
Radical Politics is acceptable given discriminatory concepts and hate speech are NOT the main focus or driver against *historically undervalued* or minority populations/categories. This is the Key.
Reverse arguments towards *historically privledged* populations genearlly speaking do not fall under this umbrella, (unless there is extreme and inappropriate unnecessary counter violence which eradicates the entire point) and counter-arguments for hate speech against such parties will be at the discretion of the book team, since there are many nuances, variables and misunderstandings involved in this.
If you have questions if your book will be accepted based on the above guidelines, please message us or read for more info below.
Books relating to war, drugs, crime or gun control are also acceptable, given the vulgarity, or conceptual aspects of it are at a level which is suitable for the public (again, ideally not too traumatizing is a good basis to work from)
We don't want to detract from artists statements nor political spectrums and healthy discourse and creative or intellectual dialog too much but also want you to please keep in mind that we *may or may not* have veterans, ex-convicts, race-crime, gendered-crime, or hate-crime victims, PTSD sufferers, refugees, human traffiking victims, chidlren of different ages, witness-protected persons, child abused victims, mentally ill, disabled and other traumatized populations looking through the books and interacting with them, so please be aware that your work may adversely affect these populations which exist in the general public at large, and send in your work accordingly with this in mind.
While We love, celebrate and welcome the offensive, If we find your work is beyond a baseline of reasonable offense *without an artistic, curious, intellectual or questioning reason*, we may ask that it be returned and forefit the artist application Fee which goes into the catologing and publicizing of your work and portolfio.
***There will be very few books we plan on rejecting, since we actually favor the offensive, but this is to retain the right to dispute a submission in the light of severely extreme cases we may come across.
If your book is a work that is interactive or an experience-based work, and you have questions about it being housed or archived, or question if it is appropriate, please let us know, as we do not have current plans to turn into a gallery quite yet, though that may be so in the future.
If you have questions about certain mediums or materials ( for example, bubblegum-pressed books, or rice or nail books, or other food or natural materials or borderline dangerous materials which are common that aren't basic papers, etc, please Email us and get a confirmation from us before shipping your artist book)
We do seek to encourage all forms and mediums of expression- including conceptual books with unorthodox materials, however we also are aware that we plan to have people from all over visiting this library in person and want to take into consideration safety and health needs of the general art viewing public, as weird and as freaky as artists and art fanatatics, art students and other creative or curious or exploratory types can be, we still have to keep this in mind :)
Our goal is to house upto 120,000 artist books from around the world and from as many ages, races, genders, and differences, and countries as possible by the end of 2022 for permanant collection available to the public and housed in a permanant self-sustaining library. Additonally this makes a great addition to any artists CV or work history to have their work in a permanant libarary collection.
****Please share this with other artists, university wings, faculty, art schools, coopts, libraries, collectives, art based communities, social media or other venues.
Our mission is to spread access to and awareness of higher forms of creativity and cross cultural mind melding for an international and national viewing. To see what happens when singular artists come together to create a whole that is experienced by all.
HOW IS THE FEE USED?
The fee covers the cataloging of your book and related systems to that, the housing and storage of the book and the publication of the artists info (website etc) in which other artists and art viewers can cross pollinate and share each others work amongst others. All these systems, materials, labor, time and cataloging etc and so forth will be covered by the application fee, which is only a one time fee. We are in the process now of obtaining Non profit status, and further information will be made transparent at that time if we decide in the future to charge for library use or research or visitation. For now, we are just starting and receiving submissions and applications, and build up the library, we are still in infancy.
Additionally, We give receipts and documents certifying art book acceptance. Book Submissions are tax deductible.
We reserve the right to open and close applications of books at any given time. We may open and close the application process at different times.
To stay in the loop about the application process for when the doors open, Sign up with the news letter below or folllow the Book team on social media.
